Dealer Dictionary: “Demo”

Today’s Dealer Dictionary word is Demo, also known as a Demonstrator Model.

A Demo is a new vehicle that a top-level Manager has taken out of inventory to drive for promotional purposes: to demonstrate the vehicle to friends, family, and the general public. They are usually driven for a few thousand miles and then offered up for sale as a “Demo Model”. So what does this mean to you?

What makes the Demo an appealing choice for many consumers is the fact that dealers are authorized to discount Demo models due to the accrued mileage. While the vehicle is basically still brand new (Demo models have never been registered or titled, and the factory warranty date only begins once the consumer titles the vehicle), it may have 3 – 5,000 miles on the odometer, allowing for a lower selling price.

Usually, Demo models are well-equipped vehicles, and this is where consumers can take advantage. While your budget might allow for a car with leather and a sunroof, but no Navigation system, you could opt for a Demo version of the vehicle you’re interested in, and get a car with Nav at a price comparable to one without. Again, you’re still purchasing a new, unregistered vehicle… the only difference is that these cars have a couple thousand miles on the clock. Some consumers even swear by Demos, as they feel better knowing thier car probably has all the kinks out, and there is much less worry about the vehicle having any mechanical issues from the factory.

So keep the Demo Model in mind when shopping for your next car! Here are some of the models currently being demonstrated at the JelMAC Auto Group:
